Blackrock Sunday Market

Blackrock Sunday Market

Every Sunday 10am – 2pm

From humble beginnings…

Blackrock Village Sunday Market was started in December 2007 by the owners of The Natural Foods Bakery, Ellie and Orla O’Byrne and Orla’s partner, Roddy Henderson.

When the trio started their renowned cafe in the village in 2006, they instantly recognised the potential for a local producers’ market, and so they set about starting one. From humble beginnings in a car park full of potholes, it now boasts one of the loveliest surroundings a market could have!

Cork City Council’s renovation of the plaza was completed in 2017 and Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill said at the time that the success of the project was largely down to the Blackrock market traders, local businesses, and the public who made it clear that Blackrock village had potential to be further developed”. This volunteer-run market has been an integral part of the regeneration and renewal of Blackrock Village and the organisers couldn’t be happier:

“We are delighted to have contributed to the life of the city by starting this market. It’s all about supporting the local economy. It’s so important that we have places like this to gather – it keeps community spirit alive. We hope that this weekly event will go on to outlive us all!” (Orla O’Byrne, March 2024)
